Move over, Ronaldo. A Writer’s Life In the Digital Age.

On Monday morning, at 7.00 a.m I woke to an email from my editor at National Geographic magazine, asking me if i could do a short story about a video showing some orphaned, baby elephants playing soccer in Kenya.  He wanted an intro to the story plus an interview with an elephant expert in Norway named Joyce Poole. And he wanted by lunchtime. Luckily, Joyce was around that morning and we spoke via Skype from the US to Norway for twenty minutes. i also tried to contact Angela Sheldrick, at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Centre, in Kenya, where the elephants were filmed. I watched the video several times, transcribed the interview, did some research about Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo, then wrote up the story. Four hours later, it was published on the NG website. And is now on its way to going viral …..
